Mazda has issued a recall of the 2024 Mazda 3, the 2024 CX-50, and the CX-30. The recall was due to a malfunction in the forward sensing camera (FSC).
Mazda’s North American division says the issue affects a limited number of vehicles. Mazda estimates the recall affects almost 700 units. They are all from the 2024 and 2025 lines.
Understanding the Problem
An FSC malfunction prevents the automatic emergency braking system from working well. This can also impair the lane-keep assist feature. A faulty camera can also cause the headlights to fail when switching between high and low beams.
The ZF Group supplied the forward-sensing cameras in question. The cameras are under part numbers VC85-67XCX and DRVP-67XCX-B.
Mazda’s North American Operations first became aware of this issue in July 2024. A worker from its Mexico factory identified an error in the Smart Brake Support system.
The Mazda3 and CX-30 models for the US were all produced at the Mexico Vehicle Operation plant. The CX-50 is from the company’s manufacturing plant in Huntsville, Alabama. A worker from this plant identified the issue with the high beam.
What Can Consumers Do?
Mazda is encouraging owners to bring their vehicles to their nearest dealership. The dealers will inspect the forward-sensing camera. They will replace it for free if necessary.
