Subaru of America has issued a recall of its 2023 Ascents. The company says the move affects Ascents that are all equipped with 20” wheels.
Subaru reports that 4,409 units of the large SUV are reportedly affected by the recall.
The New Jersey-based company said the recall is due to a possible issue in the internal tire bead. The damage could have occurred during the mounting process for the wheel.
Subaru said there might have been a misaligned bead guide arm on the tire mounting device. This could have caused undue stress on the tire bead during the mounting procedure. It might have also damaged the tires’ internal structure. The damage to the bead could result in a structural breakdown of the tire. It could then lead to a rapid deflation of the tire. When this happens, the risk of a crash increases.
What Can Consumers Do?
Subaru is encouraging all vehicle owners to head to the nearest Subaru dealer. They will remove all four tires. These will become replaced by new tires. The procedure is free of charge.
All the defective tires from the affected Ascent vehicles are then rendered useless. They will become disposed of due to being unusable. Disposal of the tires will follow local regulations.
The company is also set to mail out notification letters to the owners. These are all expected to become sent by June 6, 2023.
Ascent owners can also contact the company’s customer service. They can call (844) 373-6614. The number for this specific recall is WRH-23. Consumers can also head to Subaru’s recall website and check their VIN.
