Subaru recalled 4,030 model year 2023 Imprezas sedans and hatchbacks. This recall order is due to an issue with their brake lights that turn on without touching the brake pedal.
Reports say the brake light switches in these vehicles are not adjusted right. The brake lights illuminate without stepping on the brake pedal. The vehicles also allow drivers to start and shift the transmission out of the park position. This is without pressing the brake pedal.
This means that the vehicles fail to follow the requirements of the safety standard.
An unintentional brake light glowing can fail to alert other motorists on the road. The unexpected shifts out of the park position can cause the vehicle to roll away. These problems can increase the risk of a vehicular crash.
Subaru says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries caused by this issue.
What Should Consumers Do?
Subaru assured us that the dealers can fix the issue without any new parts. Moreover, the technicians will adjust the switch to correct it. These recall repairs are always free.
The company advised owners to check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Database. They can also browse USA Today’s automotive recall database. This way, they can see if their vehicle is among those recalled. It will also allow them to search for recalls. They only need to input their vehicle identification number. They can find out if their car needs any free safety repairs at the recall center. Subaru says it expected the mailing of the owner notification letters on June 23, 2023.
